Cara Oglesby really missed her dad, an Army soldier who was deployed overseas for eight months, and she wasn’t about to wait one minute longer to greet him upon his return.

When the 300 soldiers returned to Fort Carson, Colorado, they were ordered to stand in formation for a formal welcome before their commanding officer dismissed them to greet their eager families.

But Little Cara couldn’t wait any longer and despite breaking military protocol, ran across the floor to greet her dad with a huge hug.

“Cara, she made eye contact with me in the crowd and decided she wanted to say hello a little early so she ran up and gave me a big hug and I just returned the hug back to her,” said Dad, Lt. Daniel Oglesby.

“That’s the toughest part of the entire job is to be away from the family,” Ogelsby added. “Having that reunion, it doesn’t make up for the lost time, but it’s definitely a sweet moment to finally be able to see them and embrace them again.”

Lt. Daniel Oglesby is a member of the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division which had been deployed in southwest Asia.
