To announce the birth of his new daughter, Macklemore has released a song featuring Ed Sheeran.”Growing Up” is not being marketed as a lead single for any upcoming project; according to the pair’s publicist, it’s “a personal moment of expression” from rapper Ben Haggerty and producer Lewis.
The track goes in depth about the rapper’s thoughts and feelings on becoming a new dad. In May, he and his fiancé welcomed their first child, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty.
The song describes just how Macklemore plans on raising his daughter.
I’m still tryna figure out who I am
I don’t wanna mess this up or do this wrong
I’m gonna be there for your first breath
I don’t know if I’ll be there for your first step
You can download the song for free on Macklemore’s site, where there’s also a note about the song’s meaning. He writes, “Our daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty was born 2 months ago on May 29th. There is nothing like the joy and happiness that comes from bringing a baby into this universe. She has filled my heart in ways that I never knew were possible. She is the love of my life. This song is for her.”
